The particles of a solid substance are rigid and tightly packed henceforth giving it a defined shape however the particles of liquid are loosely arranged which results in it taking the shape of the container. Also, force of attraction b/w particles of solid is greater than particles of liquid

Solid:Molecules are closely packed in a solid and there intermolecular force of attraction is very large as compared to any other medium.
Liquid:Molecules are relatively less dense in a liquid and the intermolecular force of attraction is also lesser than solid.
Gases:Molecules are far apart form each other and also the intermolecular force of attraction is lowest
