In 1831, Michael Faraday gave a law which is very important in physics .
Statement:
When a conductor is placed in a varying magnetic field, an emf is induced in it, which is called as induced emf. If the conductor is closed a current is also induced which is called induced current.
Mathematically:
e = -N d∅/dt
Negative sign shows that the induced current will oppose the change in magnetic field which is its cause of production.
