Lenz's law states that the current induced in a circuit due to a change or a motion in a magnetic field is so directed as to oppose the change in flux and to exert a mechanical force opposing the motion.
Lenz's Law ensures that the mechanical energy of the wire is reduced by the same amount of energy gained by the current. It does this by exerting a force on the wire opposing the wire's motion. This causes the wire to lose mechanical energy (its motion is impeded); it must do work against the induced magnetic field to generate current.
hence it obeys the principle of consrevation of energy

  • the direction of induced current in the coil can also be found by lenzs law.
  • which states that the direction of induced current such that it opposes the change producing it.
  • when the north pole of the bar magnet in moving in the current flows shows as to produce an north pole at the end of coil.
  • this means that current is opposing the movement of current .
  • when the north pole moves out , the current flows other way to produce a south pole which again opposes the movement of magnet (by trying attract it).
