Markovnikov's rule states that when a compound is added to an asymmetric alkene, the positive part gets attached to the carbon with more hydrogen substituents, and the negative part of substituent gets attached to the carbon with less Hydrogen substituents.
- the reaction of propene with HBr can be given in accordance with markovnikov's rule as follows:
CH3-CH2=CH2 + HBr ---> CH3-CH2(Br)-CH3
-- the reaction of propene with water (H2O) can be given in accordance with markovnikov's rule as follows:
CH3-CH2=CH2 + H2O ---> CH3-CH2(OH)-CH3

Explanation:
according to this law, the negative part of the addendum i.e . adding molecule gets attached to the carbon atom having lesser no. of hydrogen atoms
