Mendel took two pea plant. one was short while the other was tall.

By doing test cross he found all the pea plants in the F1 generation were tall. Then by crossing between the individuals of F1 generation he found that one fourth of the pea plant were small.

This gave him the idea that both tallness and shortness traits were inherited in that F1 generation, but only talness characteristics was expressed in the F1 generation.

By this he get to know that the tallness trait is always dominant on the shortness and so he represented tallness as (TT) and shortness as (tt).
