The merits of Whitaker's method of classification are:
1.All living organisms were broadly classified into 5 groups termed as kingdoms.
2.Robert Whitaker classified organisms on the basis of cell structure,complexity of organisms,mode of nutrition,life style and phylogenetic relationships.

This system is accepted everywhere due to the phylogenetic placing of different groups of living organisms scientifically.

The prokaryotes are placed in an individual kingdom.

Fungi are placed in a separate kingdom due to its characteristics.
