Answer:

Since Newton`s first law of motion can be derived from the second law of motion, what is the relevance of the first law of motion?

A:

Newton's first law of motion is important so that you can understand the next two. It states that if an object is not moving, than the net force acting upon it is 0; which is the same amount of force on an object moving at a constant velocity. Many people think that just because an object is moving, a force is constantly acting upon it. This is not the case! The second law states that f=ma. If f=ma=0, according to the first law, than the object is not accelerating, plain and simple. Interestingly enough, the first law of motion was actually written by Rene Descartes, when Newton was still a baby! Now, Descartes's laws of motion were far from perfect. However, his first one was correct, and Newton used this as a basis for his next two laws.

Answer:

newton's first law of motion is that The state of an object i.e. rest or motion does not changes until an unbalanced external force is applied on it, same as the law of inertia

second law of motion is that force is proportional to change in momentum

Force=mka where k is constant

a=v-u/t

force is directly proportional to m(v-u/t)

let force equal to zero.

therefore mka or ma is also zero

but as we know that mass is never zero, therefore acceleration must be zero.

Mathematically

ma=0

m(v-u/t)=0

mv=mu

therefore final momentum = initial momentum

as m is common for same object, it will cut.

therefore v=u when force is zero.

the first law states the same thing but in other words that when the external unbalanced force applied is zero, the velocity of an object will remain unchanged.
