Newton's second law of motion states that the force applied to the system is equal to the time rate of change of momentum. So, F=dtdP. But P=mv. So, F=dtd(mv) Or F=mdtdv.

The result of the force acting for the given amount of time is that the object's mass either speeds up or slows down (or changes direction). The impulse experienced by the object equals the change in momentum of the object. In equation form, F • t = m • Δ v.

Newton actually stated his second law of motion in terms of momentum: The net external force equals the change in momentum of a system divided by the time over which it changes. The change in momentum is the difference between the final and initial values of momentum.

Newton's Second law of motion is called real law of motion because all the laws can be derived and are contained in this law. Proof: We know, F = m. ... If no external force acts on a body, then F = 0, since f = ma, a = 0 because mass of a body cannot be 0.
