The momentum  is directly proportional to the force applied to the object and when  anyone or anything is applying force on any thing then the force applied is matter very much with your impulse

Newton's 2nd Law of Motion

According this law, the rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the applied force

Impulse = Force X Time

I = F X t

 = ma X t

 = m(v-u)/t X t

 =m(v-u)

 =mv-mu

.'.I=Pf-Pi

Hence proved
