Newton's 2nd Law of Motion states that the force applied on a body is directly proportional to the rate of change of momentum and it acts in the direction of change of momentum.

F is proportional to mv-mu/t

F is proportional to m(v-u)/t

F is proportional to m[(v-u)/t]

F is proportional to ma

F=kma, where k is a constant of proportionality.

By experiments scientists found that the value of k is 1.

So, F = ma
