Newton's first law of motion states that a body at rest will be at rest and the body in motion will be in motion until and unless an external force is applied on it.

Example - A box kept on a table, it remain steady and in rest, on pushing it, force is exerted and the box comes under motion.

This property is also called inertia of rest and inertia of motion.
