• The major difference between autotrophs and heterotropes is that while aurotropes can make their own food heterotropes cannot and they depend directly or indirectly on autotrophs for their food requirements.

• On the other hand, heterotropes which includes all animals, fungus, etc depends directly or indirectly on autotrophs for their food.

• Autotrophs occupy the primary level in the food chain while heterotropes which are dependent on autotrophs occupies the secondary or tertiary levels in the food chain.

• On cellular levels, the cells of autotrophs and heterotropes differs in various forms.
