So a Dc generator has a device called commutator in it which converts the AC to DC. An AC generator does not have a commutator hence a raw AC output is obtained. This is different between AC and a an DC generator. Generators use Electomagnetic Induction to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
High voltages are preferred for long distance power transmission because the current is low and the resistve losses are reduced the result. Historical Ac is used because transformers are a relatively straightforward and reliable way to step the voltage up to 100,000 to 300,000 v level.

AC stands for alternating current and DC for direct current. In AC the flow of current reverses its direction periodically while in DC the current keeps on flowing in same direction.

AC is represented by a sinusoidal curve.

AC is used for long range transmission as the loss is less.
