Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to different parts of the body so that the glucose can be oxidised in the cell to produce energy. This is because aerobic respiration takes place in human cells.

Adaptation- RBC is biconcave in shape to increase surface area for absorption of oxygen.
