The District Judge presides over the highest Civil Court in a district and is armed with both Judicial and administrative powers.The District Judge is referred as the session Judge while dealing with criminal cases.

The only difference is, when a district courtexercises it's jurisdiction on criminal matters under crpc, it's called as sessions court. Both are same, ... While dealing with civil cases, theJudge is called the District Judge and while dealing with Criminal cases, he is called asSession Judge.
