Answer:
Ⓐ︎Ⓝ︎Ⓢ︎Ⓦ︎Ⓔ︎Ⓡ︎......
Similarities:
- Rome was the center of all the political and economic activity in both the Republic and the Empire. Though after the crisis of the third century Rome became mostly irrelevant the Constantinople, Antioch, Revenna, and Milan became the centers of the Empire.
- They both spoke Latin.
- The Roman assimilation machine was alive and well.
- If we compare the late Republic to the Empire the conflict areas remain the same. In both the Republic and Empire Germany and Parthia were the major warzones. That being said the Empire would add a few new ones in Scotland and Dacia.
Differences..
- In the Empire, the emperor held all control while in the Republic elected senators held all the control.
- While the income inequality was present in the Republic it became far more pronounced in the Empire with maybe a couple dozen men having half of the empire's worth.
- Romans in the Imperial period became less militaristic and stopped joining the legions. By the time of Trajan the legions were mostly made up of provincials and immigrants.
- The rule of law mattered much less in the Imperial period than in the Republican period.
- In the Republic Romans were generally pretty religious while in the Imperial period that somewhat faded. While the religious holidays would continue they lost their significance more and more and slowly Greco-Roman Paganism gave way to Eastern Mystery cults, Christianity, and Philosophy.
