the difference it the property of water to dissolve whivh the sand cant.. since it aint a liquid on the other hand the similaritiy is the dissolvement of the sugar.. in liq medium that water the sugar molecules gets in the intermolecular spaces... whereas the sand also acts the same but in case of sand it is each granule of sand that act as a molecule of water
