Answer:

Hydraulic lift works on the principle of Pascal's law which states that if any force is applied to any point of a confined fluid, then the pressure is equally and undiminishedly transmitted through out the liquid.

Explanation:

Pascal's Law states that the pressure exerted anywhere in a confined liquid is transmitted equally and undiminished in all directions throughout the liquid.

Hydraulic Jack :

A hydraulic jack is used for lifting heavy vehicles such as are , trucks, etc. In service stations for their repairing. It works on the Pascal's principle .

Working :

We have an enclosed volume of fluid in a U SHAPED TUBE.

The fluid is enclosed in the tube by two leak proof pistons in each arm.

The ratio of cross section areas of the right and tube tubes is A2 : A1 and A2> A1

When a force F1 is applied to the left piston the excess pressure acting on the fluid volume is F1/A1.

According to Pascal's principle , this excess pressure is transmitted equally throughout the fluid volume.

every unit area of the fluid experience  pressure of F1/A1.

The excess pressure in the right side  tube is F1/A1. the upward force acting on the right piston is F2= A2x F1/A1 which is larger in magnitude than F1.

Thus the application Of Pascal's results in large upward force on the right piston when a small downward force is applied on the left piston.
