Hey dear,

◆ Position-time graph -

It represents the change in position of the particle w.r.t. time.

Velocity of the particle is is calculated by slope of the position-time graph.

(I) For a particle at rest -

Position-time graph of particle at rest is a straight line parallel to x-axis.

Slope of this graph is zero, thus velocity = zero.

(II) For a particle moving with constant velocity -

Position-time graph of particle moving with constant velocity is an ascending straight line.

Slope of this graph is fixed, thus velocity = constant.

Concept:

The slope of Distance-Time Graph is the velocity  and the equation of straight line y=mx+c

Given:

The particle is at rest.

Find:

The position-time graph

Solution

Since the position remains the same, the velocity must be zero i.e m=0

Equation:y=c
