Answer:

The three examples we learnt about were: magnesium + oxygen → magnesium oxide. iron + oxygen → iron oxide. copper + oxygen → copper oxide.

When metal reacts with the oxygen, then it forms metal oxides..These reaction generates heat in the surroundings The oxides formed are lower in density and are brittle than their respective metals..

 \orange {\bold{metal + oxygen → \: metal \: oxide}}

here, oxygen is from air and oxide is basic

The vigour of reaction with oxygen depends on the chemical reactivity of metal..some metals react with oxygen even at room temperature, some react on heating, whereas still others react only on strong heating..

→ Metals like Hg(mercury) reacts very slowly, on the contrary sodium and potassium reacts faster.

some of the reactions are :-

1) 2Mg(s) + O2(s) → 2MgO(s)

2) 2Li(s) + O2(g) → Li2O2(s)

3) 2Na(s) + O2(g) → Na2O2(s)

4) 4Al(s) + 3O2(g) → 2Al2O3(s)

5) 3Fe(s) + 2O2(g) → Fe3O2(s)

to show reaction between metal and oxygen

Burn a magnesium ribbon..You will find that the magnesium ribbon burns with a dazzling white flame..Bring a wet red litmus paper near the flame. We will find that the red litmus paper turns blue indicating that it is a base..Therefore we can say that metallic oxides are basic in nature..
