Here's ur answer:-

Zinc oxide is called amphoteric because it can react with both acids and bases to give salts.

Ex:-

1)Reaction with acid:-

ZnO + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2O

2)Reaction with base:-

ZnO + NaOH ---> Na2ZnO2 + H2
