(I) a=If you place an animal or a plant cell in a hypertonic solution, the cell shrinks, because it loses water ( water moves from a higher concentration inside the cell to a lower concentration outside ).

b=The fluid contained in the mitochondria is called the matrix. The folding of the inner membrane increases the surface area inside the organelle. Since many of the chemical reactions happen on the inner membrane, the increased surface area creates more space for reactions to occur.

(ii)CO2 moves in and out of the cells by the process of diffusion which involves the movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration across the cell membrane.
