Explanation:

Application software (app for short) is a program or group of programs designed for end users. Examples of an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an accounting application, a web browser, an email client, a media player, a file viewer, an aeronautical flight simulator, a console game or a photo editor. The collective noun application software refers to all applications collectively.[1] This contrasts with system software, which is mainly involved with running the computer.

Applications may be bundled with the computer and its system software or published separately, and may be coded as proprietary, open-source or university projects.[2] Apps built for mobile platforms are called mobile apps.

New versions of application packages are often released for the following reasons -

• Bug fixing : Making a completely bug or error free software is mostly impossible. That's why application making companies distribute new updates for the application to fix the detected bugs after significant usage by consumer or developer.

• Making compatible : The OS are also upgrading from one verson to another. In most cases, the application which is compatible with the older versions of an OS is not compatible with the newly updated verson of that OS.

In this cases, the new application updates make the application compatible with that new version of the OS.

New updates also make the application compatible with the new set-up of hardware,as the hardwares are also upgrading in significant way.
