Actually wheat is not cultivated in the Kharif season, as it seeds do not grow in heavy rain. It spoils the crops of wheat so it is sown in the dry season. which is by the start of winter when rainfall is lowest

Kharif crops:

Kharif crops are the crops that are cultivated in summer and monsoon season. Wheat is not a kharif crop, but a Rabi crop. This is because:

  • Wheat requires cooler climate for its growth, which is not available during the summer in kharif season.
  • Wheat requires very less water for its growth. So, if wheat is planted in kharif season, water will stand at its root and the plant will wilt.
  • In presence of excess water, the seeds of wheat will not germinate.
