Total 5(4+1) States/UTs have two capitals. Three states and one UT- Himanchal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra and J&K have summer and winter capitals. Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation in 2014 has two capitals as per now.
a) Himanchal Pradesh: its summer capital is Shimla and winter capital is Dharamshala.
b) Maharashtra: its summer capital is Mumbai and winter capital is Nagpur.
c) Andhra Pradesh: it has its summer capital at Hyderabad and its winter capital at Amaravati. Hyderabad cannot be used by AP as a capital after 2024 (period of maximum 10 years was decided at the time of bifurcation) and Amaravati would then become the only capital of AP.
d) Uttarakhand: its summer capital is Gairsain and winter capital is Dehradun.
e) J&K: it's a union territory having its summer capital at Srinagar and winter capital at Jammu.
Thank you.
