State the action and reaction for: A moving train colliding with a stationary train
Answers
When a fast moving train suddenly collides against a stationary train, the stationary train also exerts an opposite force but due to the very large velocity of moving train this force is dominated by the action force applied by moving train and it gets damaged.
This is an example of second law of motion which states that 'The rate of change of momentum of an object is directly proportional to the unbalanced external force acting on it. The direction of the unbalanced force is the same as the direction of the change of momentum.'
When a fast moving train suddenly collides against a stationary train, there is a large change in the momentum of the moving train. This large change in momentum of the train is brought about in a very short interval of time. Hence a large retarding force acts on the train.Due to this large force damage to the train takes place.
