Advantages:
1) Fertilizers are nutrient a specific, so these supply specific elements to the soil.
2) Fertilizers are compact. So they are easy to store and transport.
3) They are required in very small amount.
4) Fertilizers are readily absorbed by the plants because they are soluble in water.
Disadvantages:
1) Fertilizers cause water pollution in lakes and rivers due to eutrophication which makes the water unfit for human consumption and even kills the aquatic animals.
2) Fertilizers give only short term benefits.
3) They harm soil microorganisms.
4) Change in soil chemistry making it either too alkaline or too acidic.
