Advantages of check dams and lakes are :

1. They produce electricity for the industrial and domestic purposes.

2. They help us by providing the irrigation facilities.

3. The led to the growth of fishes and thus led to pisciculture for the commercial purpose.

4. They also control the floods in the area in which it is created.

5. They lead to the recreational facilities and soil conservation through afforestation.

Disadvantages of multipurpose projects :

1. Their failure to fulfill their basic objectives like flood control and the disadvantages resulting out of building of such projects.

2. Regulating and diming of rivers affect the natural flow of the reverse cause excessive centre mentation and adversely affect aquatic life.

3. Multipurpose projects led to large scale displacement of local communities and to loss of their livelihood.
