Classification of elements is done for better analysis of elements regarding their particular characters like metallic or non metallic character, oxidizing or reducing character, etc.
Elements in the modern periodic table are arranged according to increasing atomic numbers.
If you go across a period, metallic character decreases gradually. Thus you can say that across a period, in the left side you will find elements with most metallic character, metalloids in the middle and non metals in the right side.
