Physicists can only express the observable in mathematical terms or laws. The cause of motion however as seen in inanimate celestial bodies they cannot explain nor does it fall within their field of expertise.
Cosmology tries to determine the inner nature of material things while physics is concerned with the laws of their action; so that the former discusses the very essence and reality of motion, while the latter lays down its laws or the ways it is observed to occur.
