Answer:

a) Cacti generally have thick herbaceous or woody chlorophyll-containing stems. Cacti can be distinguished from other succulent plants by the presence of areoles, small cushionlike structures with trichomes (plant hairs) and, in almost all species, spines or barbed bristles (glochids).

b) The needles of pines are arranged in a spiral about the stem. Each year, as the branch of a pine tree grows, it produces a whorl of new leaves, called a candle. The needles of pines last about two years and most species are evergreen, meaning they have some needles at all times.

c)The common water hyacinth (E. crassipes) is the most widely distributed species. Its leafstalk is spongy and inflated, and the upper lobes of the purple flowers have blue and yellow markings. It reproduces quickly and often clogs slow-flowing streams.

Correct answer:-

(a) Cactus:-

Ans:- Cacti are succulent perennial plants. Cacti generally have thick herbaceous or woody chlorophyll-containing stems. Cacti can be distinguished from other succulent plants by the presence of areoles, small cushionlike structures with trichomes (plant hairs) and, in almost all species, spines or barbed bristles (glochids). Areoles are modified branches, from which flowers, more branches, and leaves (when present) may grow.

(b) Pine tree:-

Ans:- All of the pines are woody plants. The mugo pine (Pinus mugo), native to the Alps of Europe, is one of the smallest pines. At maturity, it is really more of a bush than a tree, and is often planted in gardens of Europe and North America. Many other pines which are native to North America are large trees which can grow 197-262 ft (60-80 m) or more in height.

(c) Water hyacinth:-

Ans:- Water hyacinth grows in all types of freshwaters environments. This plant varies in size from a few inches to over three feet tall. They have showy lavender flowers and the leaves are rounded and leathery, attached to spongy and sometimes inflated stalks. Water hyacinth has dark feathery roots and may be confused with frog’s-bit (Limnobium spongia) which has a somewhat similar appearance.
