1) the trees do not have a fixed time for sheding their leaves and hence the forest remains evergreen throughout the year.

2) the forest comprises of hardwood trees

3) the forest is dense and impenetrable

4) the leaves of the trees form canopy and does not allow the sunlight to reach the ground and hence the forest is always marshy

1. these forests are restricted to heavy rainfall areas of the western ghats and the island groups of lakshasweep, Andaman and nicobar upper parts of Assam and Tamil Nada coast.

2. they are at their best in areas having more than 200cm of rainfall with a short dry season.

3. the trees reach great heights up to 60 metres or even above.

4. since the region is warm and wet throughout the year it has luxuriant vegetation of all kinds trees ,shrubs and Creepers giving it a multi layered structure.

5. there is no definite time for trees to shed their leaves.

6. some of the commercially important trees of these forests are Ebony mahogany Rosewood rubber and cinchona

7. the common animals found in these forests are elephants monkey Lemur and deer
