Answers
State the characteristics of algae in respect to the following points
a) Complexity of a cell structure:- Cells are majorly classified into 2 types prokaryotic & Eukaryotic based on the presence or absence of a well-defined nucleus.
Prokaryotes don't have a well-defined nucleus so their genetic material is present in the cytoplasm itself.
Eukaryotes have a well-defined nucleus with a double membrane.
a double membrane. Algae is Eukaryotic in cell structure.
b) Complexity of organism is level of organisations of its components starting from simplest organelle, cell, tissue, organs, organ systems etc.
Algae is a division of the plant kingdom with a multicellular arrangement.
c) Mode of nutrition -Algae have an autotrophic mode of nutrition they trap the light energy & perform photosynthesis in specialised organelles called chloroplast
d) Lifestyle/Lifecycle of algae
There are 4 types of lifecycle in algae
- Diplohaplontic Life Cycle
- Diplontic Life Cycle
- Haplontic Life Cycle
- Complex Triphasic cycle .
