Answer:-

Ionic or Electrovalent bond is the chemical bond formed between two or more atoms as a result of the complete transfer of one or more electrons from one atom to another.

The characteristics of an Ionic bond are :-

  • They are hard , crystalline & brittle due to strong electrostatic force of attraction.

  • They have high boiling & melting points.

  • They are good conductors in fused state or aqueous solution while in solid state they are poor conductors.

  • They are soluble in polar solvents.

  • For an Ionic compound to be soluble in water , the Hydration energy should be greater than lattice energy.
