anything that has mass and occupies space is called matter

matter are of three types

1.solid

2.liquid

3.gas

solid:

tightest packing, no free space for particles to move, definite volume, definite shape

liquid:

loosely packed compared to solid, availability of free space is more compared to solids, definite volume, no definite shape(takes shape of container)

gas:

very loose packing, a lot of free space to move, no definite volume, no definite shape
