Chemical name of plaster of paris is Calcium sulphate hemihydrate ( CaSO4.1/2H2O )
It is formed when gypsum is heated at 373K it loses water molecules and becomes plaster of paris.
CaSO4.1/2H2O(pop) + 3/2H2O gives CaSO4.2H2O(gypsum).
