Iron gets rusted due to a reaction with Oxygen which produces Iron Oxide.

That is the pink/rusted colour we see on old Iron.

In order to prove this, we can simply keep Iron in a Vaccum and observe it over a couple of days.

In order to prevent Iron from Rusting, we can coat a paint over Iron to stop this reaction from taking place. Something done on Eiffel Tower, since it is made of Iron.

We can also use alloys, e.g. mixing a little of another metal with iron to stop the reaction from taking place.

Hello Dear.

Here is the answer---

→→→→→→→→→

° The Corrosion of Iron is called as Rusting.

→ Rust is the Soft Brown Powder which is formed when Iron comes in direct Contact with air and water.

The Chemical Equations to show Rusting is given Below ⇒

4Fe + 3O₂ + 2xH₂O   ----------→ 2Fe₂O₃.xH₂O

The Conditions which are Favorable for the Rusting of the Iron are---

1) Salt Water Favors the Rusting of Iron and it increases the Rate of Rusting as well.

2) The Presence of less Reactive element which are below the Iron in the Reactivity Series of the Metals increases the Rate of Rusting.

3) The Presence of the Water along with the Oxygen is the Great Resistance for the Iron to get Rusted.

The Two Methods to Prevent the Rusting of Iron are ⇒

1) The Painting of the Iron Articles saves it From the Rusting. Thus, Painting of the Iron is the Resistance for the Rusting.

2) Galvanization is the Scientific treatment on the Iron articles which saves it from Rusting.

In the Process of Galvanization, Zinc (which lies above the Iron in the Reactivity series of the Metals) Coating is made on the Iron Surface, which does not allow the Iron to lose the electrons and gets oxidized thus it Prevents the Rusting of Iron.

Activity to Show the Conditions Necessary for the Rusting of Iron ⇒

Refers to the attachment for this topic.

Aim of the Experiment ⇒

To show Water and Air both are necessary for the Rusting of Iron.

Material ⇒ 3 Test Tubes, Oil, Water, 3 Iron Nails,

Method ⇒

1- Name the Three tubes as A, B and C. Fill the Water in the A and B Test tubes with water.

2- Now, Put the Iron nails in all the Three test Tubes, A, B and C.

3 - Also, Put the Oil in the Test Tube B, so that the air does not enter into the tube.Exposes the Test Tube A to the air.

[Make Sure that the water does not enter into the test tube C.]

4 - Covered all the 3 test tubes with the Cork, so that the outer conditions do not disturbs and interfere in the experiment.

5 - Leave the Test tubes for 2 Days.

Observation -

After 2 Days, We will observe that the ⇒

1 Iron Nail of the Test Tubes A  will get Rusted, since it is exposed to both Air, and Water.

2
→ Iron Nail in the Test Tube B does not corrode as it is only exposed to the Water not air, because it is covered with oil.

3
→ There will be no Effect on the Iron Nail of Test Tube C as it is neither exposed to air not water.

→→→→→→→→→→

Hope it helps.

Have a Marvelous Day.
