Answer:

The consequences are huge and worse. They can’t be documented in one quora answer. But we can see the consequences all around us in current times.

When one community is given special treatment and different laws from others, it propels dissatisfaction among others. The dissatisfaction may take an ugly turn if the course correction does not happen.

Communal polarization happens if you give society some reasons to see the differential treatment based on community. You can not polarize a just society in democracy and hey, polarization is just a start. Once someone starts it, they may think they can control it but they can’t because it contains the momentum of decades of suppressed anger.

Communalisation works more on the unprivileged masses. The people who have been ridiculed at every turn. In current Indian scenario, that sect is now coming into the mainline due to the rise of social media. Now they are not limited to Pan shops. They can discuss online, They can group online. They can make changes happen online.

The people who have seen other community’s bowls being filled more than their own have suddenly found voice that can be heard. It’s empowering and dangerous at the same time. Empowering because it gives feedback, Dangerous because, well it’s good amount of power that is rising on decades of anger and disappointment.

People take to harsh measure not because one person says so. One person can not brainwash masses overnight. They take harsh measures based on their own experiences, and at this time, one person comes and tell them how they’re wrong and being fooled and other says he understands how they feel because he has been there. Take a wild guess who they are going to go with.

In short, Consequences of communalisation: Disastrous, destructible, Horrible.

Cure: Course correction by those who have propelled communalisation over a long period of time. If they keep sticking to their own version, they are just adding fuel to fire. Times have changed, Strategy needs to change too.
