1905-8), when “the idea of a national education caught the imagination of the whole of India”, it was Lajpat Raiand Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who “propagated the idea”. ... In recognition of his outstanding role in the freedom movement, he was elected President of the Indian National Congress at the Calcutta session (1920).

Lala Lajpat Rai:

He is an extremists leader from Punjab. Under the influence of Arya Samaj he founded National School at Lahore. He presided over the AITUC in 1920. He boycotted Simon Commission and demonstrated against it at Lahore during which he was brutally assaulted by the police and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

In Swadeshi Movement he joined on a full-fledged. Under the presidentship of G.K.Gokhel Swadeshi movement was spearheaded by Trio of Lal-Bal-Pal in 1905. Lala lajpat rai jlsprad the swadeshi message in Punjab and other parts of Northern India.
