From his facial expressions, it is clear that he cares little if Portia wants him or not. Not even good stories can make him smile. She also tells that he will grow old to be like the Weeping Philosopher since he is full of such unpleasant gloom in his youth. She ends her speech by saying that she would rather marry a skeleton with a bone in its mouth rather than either of the Neapolitan price or the County Palatine.
