in simple distillation it is a process of separating a homogenous solution by the evaporation process
ex. separating salty water
and in fractional distillation two liquids which are dissolve in each other are separated.
example alcohol and water are separated by heating both of them and the most volatile liquid first evaporates and the residue is the other liquid
