The only difference between the 2 is of direction .

Lets understand with an example

Scalar

When you travel with a car . Finally. , Car s odeometer shows the distance travelled BuT it does not tell you how much you travelled in respective directions.

This is scalar , which has no direction assosciated.

Vector

In News , when they tell you WIND SPEED , they tell you

50 km/h FROM WEST

Here West has its own significance . You will not understand about where to go if direction is not specified. This is a vector quantity.

Now in technical terms

Vector are defined in terms of axis. How much component in which axis.

But scalar is just that gives you value(magnitude)

Eg

Scalar - 40 km/ h speed of car

Vector- 40 km /h wind speed towards EAST.

This is basically what it means .
