(1) Friction between moving parts of a machine or that between the tyres and road decreases the speed. The work done by frictional force is dissipated as heat. Thus, only a part of the input energy is available for useful work. Fuel is wasted in order to overcome the frictional force and maintain the desired speed.
(2) Friction leads to wear and tear of the surfaces in contact which are in relative motion.
(3) Friction produces noise.
