The fact that the light energy is propagated in terms of photons or quanta suggests that light should have a corpuscular or particle character. At the same time, light shows phenomena such as interference and diffraction which could only be explained by considering the light to be a form of wave motion. These experimental facts led Einstein to propose that light has dual character, I. e., particle as well as wave character.
