Alluvial Soil:-
Alluvial soil is formed mainly due to the silt deposited by the Indo-Gangetic Brahmaputra Rivers. In coastal regions some alluvial deposits are formed due to the wave action.
Distribution:-
The alluvial soil is found all along the Indo-Gangetic Brahmaputra Plains except in few places where the top layer is covered by desert sand. It is also found in Deltas of The Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Kaveri, where it is called the deltaic alluvium (Coastal Alluvium). It is also found in the Narmada, the Tapi valleys and the Northern part of Gujarat. Its types are Khadar and Bhangar.
Economic Value:-
The alluvial soil is very fertile containing adequate quantity of potash and phosphoric acid. Also this soil contains large amount of humus in it which is very important for crop growth. The alluvial soil is very useful for the production of crops like wheat, rice and sugarcane. It enhances the productivity of these crops.
