(1) As the surface area increases, more number of liquid particles are exposed to the source of heat. Therefore as the surface area increases, the evaporation rate increases.

(2) For the water to turn into gas, the bondings between the molecules have to be broken free. Therefore liquids like water which have strong bonds take more time to evaporate than ethyl alcohol which has weak bonds.
