The magnetic filed would definitely influence moving charged particles which that there path will be altered depending upon many factor such as. magnitude of charges. intensity of magnetic field. velocity of charges. the direction of motion.

A magnetic field can have various effects on a moving charged particle depending upon the direction of motion of the charge and the type of charge.

  • We know that a moving charged particle experiences force in a magnetic field whose magnitude will depend upon the magnitude of charge and cross product of its velocity vector and magnetic field and direction is perpendicular to the plane containing both the vectors.
  • When the charge enters the field parallelly, the magnitude of the cross product becomes zero. So, the charge passes undisturbed.
  • When the charge enters perpendicularly to the field since the force always remains perpendicular to it, it starts following a circular path.
  • When the charge enters the magnetic field obliquely, there will be a circular motion due to the component of velocity perpendicular to the field, but it will translate too because of the parallel component. So the charge will follow a helical path.
