In Sri Lanka there are 74% sinhala speaker and 18 % tamil speaker . tamil speaker includes both Indian tamil (5%) and srilankan tamil (13%) and 7% Christian. THE SINHALA COMMUNITY ARE IN MAJORITY AND HENCE THEIR CONSTITUTION SAID THAT ALL GOVERNMENTAL JOBS ARE FOR SINHALA. SO OTHER COMMUNITY DEMANDED FOR EQUALITY. AND THESE LEADS TO CIVIL WAR IN SRI LANKA

sri lanka has a diverse population. the sinhalese community form the majority of the population (74%)with tamils(18%) who are mostly concentrated in the north and east of the island, forming the largest ethnic minority. other communities include the Muslims. among Tamil , there are two subgroup . the tamil natives of country are called sri lankan tamils.(13%)
the tamils ,who were brought as indentured labourers from indis by british colonists to work on estate plantation are called the indian origin tamils (5%)
most of sinhala -speaking people are buddhists, while most of tamils are hindu or muslims. there are about 7per cent christians , who are both tamil and sinhalease.
