The phenomenon of the Rayleigh's  is used determine the resolving power of the telescope. It depend upon the following component.

  • A large apertures is needed to resolve.
  • Higher the diameter which eventually increases the resolution of the telescope.
  • The increase in the wavelength decreases the resolving power.
  • In the oil-immersion microscope: It depends upon the distance and it is inversely proportional to the distance between the two objects.
  • It follows the Abbe's criterion.
  • Also depends upon the n refractive index.
