Siwalik Hills are the outermost ranges of foothills located to the south of the Main Himalayas.

Therefore they are also known as outer Himalayas.

They are the lowest range of the Himalayas with the height of of 600 to 1500 metres and with varying from 15 to 150 kilometre.

They extend from Jammu and Kashmir in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the East.

They have flat-bottomed structured Valley which are known as 'doons'.

(i) It is most prominent in the western half of the Himalayas.

(ii) It is made of unconsolidated river deposits.

(iii) It is prone to earthquakes and landslides.

(iv) Here the problem of soil erosion is the worst.
